10 THINGS YOU CAN DO ON A DAY TRIP TO POSITANO

A List of Must-See Sights on a One-Day Visit to Positano

10 DIFFERENT WAYS to Spend a Perfect Day in Positano

When you're visiting the Amalfi Coast, Positano is one town you just can't miss. Every single day the narrow streets line with tourists from around the globe excited to relax and swim in the Mediterranean Sea, shop in the little boutiques, and try some of Italy's most famous cuisine. But what if you only have ONE day to visit Positano? Well, I'm here to help with exactly that. Below is a list of the top 10 ways to spend a day in this gorgeous town.

1. RENT A DAY BED AT THE SPIAGGIA GRANDE

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best ways you can spend a day in Positano. There is one large beach along the bottom of the village called Spiaggia Grande and there are multiple beach clubs that you can rent a day bed from. Some of the clubs include La Scogliera and Lido L'Incanto. My friend group opted to rent a day bed from Lido L'Incanto, which is essentially two chairs with an umbrella and little table for €45. The price for these fluctuate depending on the time of year you go and where you want to rent a chair; the front row pays a little bit more than all the rows that come after. This is a great way to enjoy the view of the entire town as a whole, have snacks and drinks delivered to you, and be in a great location to visit other nearby spots if you really want to.

2. TAKE A BOAT TOUR OF THE AMALFI COAST

A boat tour is the perfect way to get a good glimpse of both Positano and the Amalfi Coast as a whole. You can either start in Positano or start in a different town, like Amalfi. For us, we decided to start the day and get picked up by the boat in Amalfi and then we rode to Positano, where we jumped off the boat to swim for a couple hours and then got off at the port to walk around Positano and have lunch. If you only want to experience Positano within the town for a couple hours, this is a great way to do it. We felt like we had ample time to both shop and eat because we agreed on how long we wanted to stay with our boat driver so it worked out rather perfectly. If you love the water and don't want to spend the ENTIRE day walking up and down the steep stairs in Positano, I think this would be the way to go.

3. GRAB SOME SOUVENIRS AT POSITANO'S FAMOUS SHOPS

If you have any social media whatsoever, especially Instagram or TikTok, then odds are you've seen some of Positano's famous souvenir shops. One of them, which is a luxury dress and apparel store, is called CB Positano. This store is filled with dresses and bags that have fun, vibrant colors and patterns but the price tag is a little high at around €100-€300 for each article of clothing. There are also ceramic stores, sandal shops, art galleries, and little cafes you can stroll through. Many have little lemon designs, a signature theme of the Amalfi Coast, and a must-have design to bring home. When I visited, I ended up buying a bunch of little cork wine stoppers, a serving spoon, and a cheese grater all with Amalfi lemons on them.

4. DINE AT A SEASIDE RESTAURANT

When you visit Positano, you'll notice that there are countless restaurants to choose from, but the best restaurants with both the best food and the best views are at the top of the town. Yep, I said it, at the top of all of those steep stone staircases. If you're going to make the most of Positano, I would suggest making a reservation at a restaurant like Il Tridente, La Sponda, La Tagliata, Maestro, or Ristorante Bruno for either lunch or dinner. Preferably, since almost all of these restaurants have outdoor seating, it would be best to have a reservation for dinner about 30-45 minutes before sunset so you can enjoy the best views of the day. Just remember- these are some of the most famous restaurants in the WORLD so if you are going to visit them, make sure to book your reservation quite literally months in advance. It'll be worth it- trust me.

5. TAKE A COOKING CLASS

Want to learn how to make some of Italy's best dishes? From homemade pasta and pizza to tiramisu, there are countless cooking classes across Positano that you can opt to take and learn whatever type of food you want! This is a great way to spend an afternoon in Positano and pretty much covers either lunch or dinner for you. It's also an awesome skill to take home so you can make the same food for your family and friends! If you do want to book a class, I would advise going to Airbnb and comparing the cooking classes they offer in Positano to eachother. Find one for a good price that cooks a dish you would genuinely be interested in learning to make and eating, and you're golden. Bonus points if you can find one that's only 3-5 hours so you can add another activity or two to your day in Positano!

6. HIKE THE PATH OF THE GODS

The Path of the Gods is arguably the most famous hiking trail in all of the Amalfi Coast. Spanning across multiple towns, visitors can choose both their start and end destination based on how long they want their hike to be, how difficult, and what view they want! If you're looking to end up in Positano, you can start in Bomerano, a small village in Agerola. This route has stunning views of the coastline at a relatively moderate difficulty level, making it a popular choice for many hikers. The entire hike takes around 4 to 5 hours, covering approximately 5.8 miles, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water!

7. VISIT THE Church of Santa Maria Assunta

Visiting the Church of Santa Maria Assunta is a must when you're in Positano. This church stands out with a colorful dome and its conveniently located right near the beach, making it the perfect place for a quick stop. Inside, you'll find an interior filled with gold accents and artwork like the famous 13th-century Black Madonna icon. Plus, you get great views of Positano from there, making it perfect for pictures!

8. TRY THE FAMOUS LEMON SORBET

This lemon sorbet had my friends and I in a CHOKEHOLD during our visit to Italy in August. This dessert is truly the epitome of an outstanding Italian dessert. It's light, creamy, and refreshing in a way that you know will be good but somehow turns out even better than you imagined. We knew this dessert would be good, but we just didn't know how good. After trying it for the first time about 4 or 5 days into our trip, we swapped to pretty much only eating lemon sorbet, gelato, and tiramisu after every lunch and dinner. We were obsessed, and when I got home I even looked up recipes to make it in the summer here. It's safe to say if you like lemon even a little bit, it's a must-try treat in Positano.

9. ENJOY A SUNSET APERTIVO AT A FAMOUS RESTAURANT

There's no better way to close out a day in Positano than by getting an apertivo at sunset. Lucky for you, there are countless restaurants that would be the perfect end to your day. However, as I mentioned in one of the earlier points about dining, if you are looking to have an apertivo at one of the more famous restaurants like Il Tridente, La Sponda, La Tagliata, Maestro, or Ristorante Bruno, I would suggest trying to make a reservation. This way you can secure your spot and know exactly where you're going. If that doesn't work out though, make sure to reach out to your accommodation or find a local to ask about some good restaurants for an apertivo in Positano. They'll have great suggestions for you, trust me!

10. GET A PAIR OF HANDMADE CUSTOM SANDALS

Did you know that the Amalfi Coast has multiple sandal shops where you can get a custom pair of leather sandals? Positano has a couple of good quality shops that do this, including Safari Club Positano, Artigianato Rallo, and Nana' Positano. If you're looking to bring back a stylish souvenir for yourself that will last for years to come (and that you can show off for years to come), then a custom pair of sandals is perfect for you. Just walk into one of these shops, choose the type of straps and style you want, and they will measure your foot size and get right to work! This experience only takes about 20-30 minutes.
