When I was preparing for my trip to Paris this past November, I did a ton of research. One thing that consistently kept coming up on my TikTok feed was Angelina's viral hot chocolate. Every time I saw a video of this hot chocolate, I swear I was drooling by the end. As a girl from a family of chocolate enthusiasts, hot chocolate has always been a favorite treat of mine, especially in the winter, and THIS hot chocolate looked thick, creamy, rich, and decadent. I knew that I just had to try it on my trip, so I sent one of the TikToks to my sister and friend, and it didn't take much to get them on board. We had the hot chocolate not once but twice on our week long trip, and I'm here to give you every single detail so you can experience this hot chocolate for yourself.
Angelina's is a household name when it comes to historic teahouses in Paris. Since opening its doors across the street from Tuileries Garden in 1903, Angelina's has become an establishment known worldwide for its tea, hot chocolate, and confectionaries. Today, it attracts visitors from countries near and far for its thick, rich hot chocolate.
The original Angelina's is located at 226 Rue de Rivoli in Paris, directly across the street from Tuileries Garden and down the block from the Louvre. There are also five other locations in Paris, two locations in Versaillas, one in Douains. Angelina's can also be found in other countries as well! Since its opening over 100 years ago, Angelina's has expanded with two locations in the United States, 12 locations in the Middle East, and six locations in Asia. Visitors continue to flock to the original locations the most though.
Angelina's in Paris is so famous because of their thick hot chocolate. It's said to be the best hot chocolate in Paris and it's recently gone viral on TikTok, only heightening the chocolate craze at this French pâtisserie. They also have a full selection of delectable pastries as well as a breakfast and lunch menu.
The length of the line at Angelina's depends on the time of day, day of the week, and what month that you visit. Regardless of when you're planning a trip to Angelina's though, I would definitely expect a line. My friends and I went on a random weekday around 1:00 in the afternoon in November and we waited outside for about 45 minutes. If I were to go again, I would just expect a 45 minute to 1 hour wait just to be safe.
While there is no particular dress code for visitors planning to eat at Angelina's, I would advise dressing casual without any holes in your jeans and no hats. Angelina's is a historic tea house and the original location has beautiful murals painted on each wall with gold trim. The interior feels pretty elegant so I would dress however you normally would to a nice brunch. It's most definitely a step above what you would wear to meet a friend for a coffee and a little snack!
Angelina's has an extensive menu featuring breakfast items, lunch items, pastries, and a variety of beverages. If you're looking to view their full menu, click here. Some of their most popular items include the viral hot chocolate, the Angelina Mont Blanc pastry, and the croque-monsieur sandwich. The most popular items are definitely on their brunch menu, which has different tiers depending on what type of food you want, and their pastry menu.
The price of Angelina's hot chocolate depends on which location you go to. Their menu for both locations in the United States says it's $13.50 for the viral hot chocolate. When visiting the original location in Paris AND the Angelina's in the Palace of Versailles I was charged €8.50, which is around $9. In Dubai, the hot chocolate is AED43.00, which is about $11.50. It seems as though the cheapest place to get Angelina's hot chocolate is at one of the eight locations in France!
In short, the answer is YES. If you've only had hot chocolate made with milk or water and chocolate powder, then you're in for a big show. This hot chocolate is thick, not too sweet the way American hot chocolate can be. Instead, it tastes like it's made with dark chocolate. It also comes with a little side of whipped cream with cuts the richness of the hot chocolate and adds a touch of sweetness that the hot chocolate needs. All three of us tried this hot chocolate from my group trip to Paris in November and we went back a second time just a few days later because of how much we loved it. If I had thought to bring some home, I would have!
