18 things to do in bali when it rains
18 Indoor Activities The Whole Family Will Love
indoor activities for when it rains in bali
One of the worst feelings is when you're on vacation, super excited about nice weather, and it RAINS! This is especially true in a place like Bali where there's just so many fun and exciting things to do outside. It can be tough to go from plans of surfing and hiking and riding scooters around the island to trying to conjure up plans for the indoors that are just as good. Thankfully for you, that's where I come in. Bali has a rainy season from late October to early March, but oftentimes it will still rain in the dry season as well and I know this. I've experienced it! And it's for this reason that it's best to expect rain during your trip to Bali and to have a Plan B when it does. Below I've outlined the 18 most fun indoor things you can do when it's raining in Bali, so the fun doesn't have to stop just because the sun went to hide.
1. Watch the Devdan Show in Nusa Dua
The Devdan Show is Indonesia's most popular show, famous for its traditional dancing, acrobatics, costumes, and more. This show is featured at Nusa Dua Theatre and the performance is for people of all ages to enjoy, so this is the perfect place to bring your family, friends, or to go solo when the weather isn't too nice out.
Tickets are only about $20 per person and there are snacks available so you can snag a quick treat to bring into the air conditioned theater. The show is an hour long following an interesting storyline and VERY highly rated among viewers so get ready for a super memorable performance!
2. Visit Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta
The Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta describes itself as "Indonesia's Iconic Resort Lifestyle Destination" with retail stores, restaurants, and both indoor and outdoor walking paths. This is the perfect place to update your wardrobe, find some souvenirs to bring back home, or simple grab a bite to eat. It's an award-winning and absolutely gorgeous mall to visit, and if it was raining while I was in the area then this would likely be one of the first places that I would go. Oh, and did I mention that there are three levels of shopping AND it's located directly next to Kuta Beach so you have views of the water?
3. Explore the Bali Museum in Denpasar
If you're looking to learn a bit more about Indonesian culture on your break from the outdoors, you're going to want to visit the Bali Museum in Denpasar. This museum was built almost 100 years ago in 1931 and it features both art and historical exhibits. Some of the most notable things to seek out during your museum visit include the
prehistoric sarcophagi, ritual objects, and stunning Balinese paintings. The exhibits are spread out throughout four main buildings but it's overall a smaller museum which means that you won't be on your feet for too long!

4. Try an Escape Room in Seminyak
Looking to stimulate your brain and try to solve some puzzles while it downpours outside? Go visit
The Pandora Experience escape room in Kuta. Each escape room can accommodate a group of up to 10 people which means its perfect for larger groups to do together. You start by choosing between multiple different experiences, each with a different difficulty level, physical level, and fear factor. Once your group chooses the experience they'd like to complete, you have 120 minutes to solve puzzles, find hidden chambers and passages, and complete tasks before the game is over. According to the reviews, the puzzles are very well thought out and there are so many clues to find that you'll actually be excited to find everything and might NOT want to escape!
5. Take a Cooking Class at Paon Bali in Ubud
Regardless of where you are on the island of Bali, there are
countless cooking classes you can choose from. These experiences are unique because not only do you learn traditional Balinese techniques and recipes, but you also get to eat all the food after! It's like an experience and a meal all in one. Most of them are also in indoor/outdoor settings so you'll be cooking inside but won't be getting wet from the rain. You can also choose how long you of a cooking class you want to do so if the weather is only looking drab for part of the day, do a class that's 2-3 hours long. If it's going to be raining all day, consider opting for a longer class where you're making more dishes or more complex meals.
6. Get a Flower Bath and Spa Day at Karsa Spa
Another great way to spend a rainy day is at a spa. Bali is famous for their flower baths and they're both a relaxing and Instagrammable way to enjoy the day. One of the most popular spas in Bali is Karsa Spa, which offers a variety of high quality treatments that will have you reveling in your rainy day. From facials and massages to body scrubs, iconic flower baths, and reiki sessions, you'll walk away from Karsa Spa feeling both physically and mentally better. 7. See a Movie at Cinepolis or XXI Theater
Another good rainy day activity is to go and see a movie! Just remember that some of the movies will not be in English, so its best to double check you're seeing a film in a language you understand before purchasing the tickets.
8. Take a Batik Painting Class in Ubud
A Batik painting is a traditional form of art where the artist uses wax and dyes to create patterns on fabric. It uses a technique known as the "Wax-Resistant Technique" where wax is applied to create a design and then the fabric undergoes a dye bath, and then the wax is removed. There are a few classes that teach artists this technique, and these classes are great because then you get to take a souvenir home with you- your new Batik painting! 10. Relax with Coffee and a View
Bali is chalked full of beautiful coffee shops, especially in Canggu and Seminyak, so why not grab a coffee and take a seat at one of them on a quiet, rainy day? While I could give you a list of great coffee shops like Miel Specialty Coffee, Two Face, and Livingstone, I think the best way to find a coffee shop is to spend a few minutes driving down one of the more popular streets and see what you find. You might stumble upon a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop where there are only a couple people, or you might find where the crowds are going. Either way, think of it like a coffee shop adventure!
11. Browse Balinese Crafts at the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA)
ARMA Museum and Resort is a popular art museum that was founded in 1996 with the mission of preserving and developing Balinese art and culture. Children under 6 years old get in for free, and admission for anyone above the age of 6 years old is IDR 150,000 ($9 USD or $14 AUD) per person. You can also check out their current performances here and their cultural workshops here (silver classes, a yoga class, painting class, wood carving class, etc). There's a resort, restaurant, and spa on site as well so there is SO much to do at ARMA.

If you're looking to visit a beautiful and famous jewelry studio and make your own silver jewelry, this is the perfect place for you. They offer tours of their facility, as well as a Jewelry Master Class with their master artisans Monday thru Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. If you're looking for an activity to keep your kids entertained for a couple hours during bad weather, check out the Upside Down World! With tickets priced at $6 per person, your kids can enjoy going from room to room and experiencing the world upside down at different scenes. This is also a great photo spot if you're just visiting so you can send funny photos back to your family at home. Kids absolutely love taking silly pictures here.
