DOES amsterdam HAVE UBER?
Everything You Need to Know About Ridesharing & Transportation in Amsterdam
uber, lyft & other forms of transportation in amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the most iconic cities in the world, attracting over 19 million tourists annually. For this reason its no surprise that the country keeps up-to-date with the latest forms of transportation, including Uber. The city's efficient public transit system, many bike lanes, and canal boats also offer visitors multiple different ways to explore. Whether you prefer the convenience of a ride-sharing service like Uber or the charm of traditional transport like biking, Amsterdam provides options to suit every preference.
DOES AMSTERDAM HAVE UBER?
Yes, Amsterdam does have Uber. In fact, Uber has been available to residents and visitors in the Netherlands since December of 2012! However, it's also important to understand that while it does operate throughout all parts of Amsterdam, as well as larger cities like Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht, it does not operate to all of the more rural towns across the country. For those areas, individuals typically rely more on public transportation, taxi services, and walking to get from Point A to Point B.
HOW MUCH DOES UBER IN AMSTERDAM USUALLY COST?
The cost of an Uber ride in Amsterdam depends on a number of factors including the time of day you book the ride, how busy Uber is at that time, the area you're in, and the distance you are looking to drive. You can typically expect a ride within the city to cost you anywhere from €8 to €25. To get a more accurate estimate of the cost of a ride, put both your current location and your destination into the app. The cost estimator should show you the price at that specific time of day for the number of people you input/the size of car you choose. You can then determine whether or not you agree to that specific price or if alternative transportation is better for you!
DOES AMSTERDAM HAVE LYFT?
No, unfortunately Lyft does not operate in Amsterdam or anywhere else in the Netherlands. There are multiple other ridesharing apps that do operate in Amsterdam though including Uber, Bolt (formerly known as Taxify), and ViaVan. These apps make finding a quick and convenient ride easy for both tourists and locals looking to get from one location to the next without having to navigate public transportation or find parking.
IS UBER MORE AFFORDABLE THAN OTHER TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS IN AMSTERDAM?
The answer to this question depends on how far you need to go. For shorter distances within the city, public transportation like buses and trams are usually less expensive compared to Uber. However, Uber may be more cost effective than taxis when there is a lot of traffic or when you are traveling late at night. For groups or when carrying lots of luggage, Uber might also offer better value and convenience compared to public transit. Car rentals are also a good option if you are looking to take control of your schedule and freedom instead of having to wait for transportation in certain areas at certain times.
THE MOST AFFORDABLE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS IN AMSTERDAM
There are countless transportation options to choose from when you're traveling in Amsterdam, so I've put together a list of them in order from cheapest to most expensive so you can make informed decisions when you travel!
IS IT CHEAPER TO TAKE AN UBER OR A TAXI IN AMSTERDAM?
Taking an Uber is usually cheaper than taking a taxi in Amsterdam. This is because Uber provides riders with the fare estimates upfront before they even book the ride, and it's usually a more economical choice compared to riding a taxi with a meter that increases the fare based on distance. In addition, if there is any traffic or roadwork and it takes longer to get to your destination than it normally would, the taxi rate will continue to go up- the Uber would not because you already agreed on price when you booked. This means that if you're stuck on whether you want to use a taxi or an Uber in Amsterdam, go with Uber in most instances.
WHAT'S THE BEST RIDESHARE APP TO USE IN AMSTERDAM?
The best ridesharing app to use in Amsterdam is hands down Uber. This is not only because of the cost of a ride, but also because of accessibility. There are also multiple levels of comfort you can choose from with options like UberX and Uber Black. The second best ridesharing app in Amsterdam would be Bolt (formerly known as Taxify), which has also gained popularity for its pricing and accessibility within the city. At the end of the day though, both apps provide convenient rides making them top choices for locals and tourists alike. You can't go wrong with using these in Amsterdam!
